American Idol Recap: Jessica Sanchez Covers a Royal Tribute to Queen & Her Father

Jessica Sanchez’s infamous alter ego was back on American Idol last night. The 16-year-old contestant was claiming her seat to the Idol throne with a rocking cover of Queen’s 1975 hit, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Sanchez wasn’t quite the queen of rock and was criticized for not being gritty enough in her performance. However, the petite songstress came back strong with an emotional tribute to her dad.

Sanchez revealed that her father is getting deployed to Singapore soon, and wanted to honor him with the classic Luther Vandross song, “A Night With My Father.” The heartfelt performance received a stellar reaction from the judges. While Steve Tyler almost dropped his Coca-Cola cup, J.Lo said, “Ay, Jessica…[It was] the feeling for me.“ She added, “It’s the most beautiful I've heard it.”

Randy Jackson finally expressed, “You’re so natural. It flows and, like Jennifer said, now you got the feeling, that connection. Every time you sing you know what's wrong with it? Absolutely nothing.” We couldn’t agree more.
