American Idol Recap: Billy Joel Writes for Jessica Sanchez

Last night, the American Idol contestants channeled their inner Piano Man to make some of the best Billy Joel songs their own. Performing hits like "New York State of Mind" and "My Life," the Idol hopefuls tried to stand out but two emerged as the stars of the night: Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.

Phillip sang "Movin' Out" and impressed all three judges. Randy Jackson said that it was "one of the best renditions of that song ever." That's impressive for one of Billy Joel's signature hits -- so famous that it was the name of the Broadway show based on his songbook.

But Jessica was just as good, if not better, with her performance of "Everybody Has a Dream." The song off the album The Stranger isn't as well-known, but that might change now! The judges all loved Jessica's performance and gave her a standing ovation. Randy said she was "flawless" and Steven Tyler thanked her for letting him hear her sing. Jennifer Lopez went so far as to say that the song was written just for her years ago by Billy Joel.

Last week, Jessica failed to impress the judges and hit a bump in the road with "Turn the Beat Around," so we're happy to see that she's back on track!

This week, American Idol also featured style mentor Tommy Hilfiger and P. Diddy. They worked with Jessica and are both confident that she'll make it far into the competition.

Take a look at Jessica's style and a listen to her version of "Everybody Has a Dream."
