American Idol Recap: Jessica Sanchez Loses to Phillip Phillips

The top ten contestants, as well as megastars like Chaka Khan, Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia, and more filled the American Idol season finale with nostalgic and captivating performances last night. A whopping 132 million votes were submitted, but (sadly) Philip Philips was declared the winner.

Jessica Sanchez was named the runner-up after nailing almost every single cover throughout Season 11. Besides performing her best rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I’ll Always Love You,” the 16-year-old shared a duet with soulful icon Jennifer Holliday. The two performed “And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going” for a roaring crowd of fans.

The other finale highlight? After Neil Diamond’s performance (yes, Neil Diamond), Jennifer Lopez hit the stage with Wisin y Yandel for a blazing performance of “Follow the Leader.” At first Lopez hit the stage in a sequin pajama-type getup that made us question her stylist, but she eventually ripped off the top to show off her four-pack abs.

Once Ryan Seacrest announced the winner, Sanchez took it in stride. Sanchez is still a winner in our eyes!

What do you think about the results?
