American Idol Recap: J.Lo Tells Jessica Sanchez “You Are One of The Best”

Only four contestants remain on American Idol, and Jessica Sanchez is all about earning her spot at the top. The 16-year-old singer channeled perfection with her spot-on cover of Etta James’ “Steal Away.” The late legend’s eloquent and sharp vocals aren’t the easiest to master, but Sanchez did just that and received outstanding praise from the judges – surprise, surprise!

J.Lo was so impressed that she started a full on interrogation! “Who taught you to do that? Did it just come natural?” asked Lopez. Sanchez politely explained that she started listening to soulful singers at the age of 7 and just practiced and “picked it up.” The “Dance Again” singer was beyond impressed with the contestant’s vocals and said, “For me, one of the best I’ve seen in such a long time.” She added, “I have to say, when I think about all the great female singers out there right now…you are one of the best.”

Sanchez, who is quickly earning her spot in the top three, hit the stage for another soulful act of Jennifer Holliday’s “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.” The song was also performed by American Idol veteran, Jennifer Hudson, in her award-winning feature movie, Dreamgirls. Sanchez’s version gave us chills and hit every note with a punch.

Randy Jackson noted the obvious by saying, “You guys are in it to really win it.” No doubt, our girl Sanchez is ready to become the next American Idol! Do you think she will make it to the top three?
