After 90 million votes were submitted, America has decided! Jessica Sanchez is officially in the top two after last night’s emotional elimination episode on American Idol. Joshua Ledet put up a good fight with his cover of Mary J. Blige’s cover of “No More Drama,” but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep the talented singer from New Orleans in the competition.
While everyone was sad to see the soulful singer go, Sanchez’s family seemed relieved and cheered for the 16-year-old’s triumph into the top two. “I’m nervous, but excited,” said Sanchez to Ryan Seacrest right before the results were read.
Industry expert and Interscope Records chairman, Jimmy Lovine definitely seems to favor the California teen. “I think Jessica can sing in the Grammys,” he said. But he also warned that the singer really needs another “magical moment” to be crowned the winner.
Sanchez is set to battle it out with the Philip Philips next week for the Idol title. Will she be able to conquer his popular rock and Dave Matthew-ish sound? We totally think she has what it takes to be the first Latina to win American Idol. Now we want to hear from you!
