American Idol aired a special episode on Sunday, which didn’t begin until nearly 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) due to overtime of the NFC Championship game. To make up for that broadcast blunder, FOX is airing an encore of that Idol installment tonight (Tuesday), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the encore airing, we see judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Steven Tyler overseeing auditions in San Diego where Jim Carrey’s 24 year-old daughter, Jane, is introduced as a contestant with a golden ticket to Hollywood.
Though the episode had been pushed back in time, the broadcast still had 19.8 million viewers with a 7.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. While those numbers are impressive considering the situation, and were better than those of the Wednesday premiere, Idol was still lacking in overall viewers.
With the State of the Union Address broadcast tonight as well, this Idol episode will be broadcast at different times throughout the nation. In Eastern, Central, and Pacific time zones, the show will air at 8 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. Mountain time.
