American Idol auditions have officially kicked off in New York City! Judges Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson began auditions at Lincoln Center. Ryan Seacrest was also there, and will continue as host when the show returns for the 12th season. The official announcement confirming judge selection was released on Sunday, just hours before the auditions took place, reports Fox News Latino.
While a few had been questioning Randy Jackson's return to the popular show, or whether he'd assume a different role, the announcement confirmed that Jackson will continue on as a judge -- the last remaining original American Idol judge. TMZ reports that this decision comes after producers were unable to reach an agreement with Enrique Iglesias.
"I am thrilled about this year's judges panel," said Mike Darnell, Fox president of Alternative Entertainment. "With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan, we've put together one of the most exciting judging panels around."
