Scotty McCreery could be crowned the next American Idol in tonight's finale, but the boy behind the deep voice is still very much a mystery. Here are 10 fun facts about the country crooner!
1). Let's start with the really serious stuff first. His favorite cereal is Cap'n Crunch and Lucky Charms and his favorite candy is Starburst and Tootsie Rolls.
2). He’s already won Idol! Last summer, Scotty competed in a contest hosted by the country music station WQDR called “Clayton Idol,” and won!
3). He’s a gentleman. Even though he won the annual Idol coin toss, he let his competitior Lauren Alaina choose whether she wanted to sing first or last in the Idol finale.
4). Scotty worked as a bagger at Lowes Foods in Garner, North Carolina.
6). His mother Judy says Scotty started singing when he hummed a few lines of a nursery rhyme at his one-year-old doctor’s check-up. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 10.
7). Scotty was the pitcher for his high school baseball team - the Garner High School Trojans and according to his coach, he had a mean curve ball!
8). Scotty has 180,000 followers on Twitter, several thousand more than Lauren Alaina who only has 141, 510 followers (as of 5:48 p.m. tonight).
9). Though he's a country crooner at heart, Scotty owns a Jackson 5 Greatest Hits album. “And I listen to it all the time,” he says.
10). He’s a quarter Puerto Rican! Earlier in the season, Scotty broke down his Latin roots to Latina Contributing Editor Lynda Lopez: “My grandmother is from Old San Juan, and my grandfather was over in Puerto Rico for the air force and so they met and they had my dad in Aguadilla. Then they moved up north, and then my dad came down south and they had me," he explained.
