He Earned His Vicious “Nickname” A Decade Ago

Ortiz is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his nickname “Vicious,” which he even uses as part of his Twitter handle (@VICIOUSortiz). “I was 16 and a junior Olympic medalist,” says Ortiz of the name. “I qualified for the Olympic trials. I won the bracket. They said that's Vicious with the smile. I said, no. But it had a ring to it, so I went with Vicious Vic. But it's an oxymoron because out of the ring, I'm not vicious at all.”
