The 8 Worst On-Stage Lip Syncing Moments

When singers take to the stage, we expect them to belt out their natural, God-given voices for all to hear. As we know, that doesn't always happen. Here are seven times singers were caught in #epicfail lip syncing moments:

Mariah Carey was caught yet again in a lip syncing blunder during her 2016 New Year's Eve performance in New York City. The singer clearly experienced technical difficulties during a throwback to her 1991 hit, "Emotions," to which she explained they didn't have "a check for this song."

After the performance, Carey took to Twitter, writing "Shit happens. Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here's to making more headlines in 2017." Later, the singer's manager criticized Dick Clark Productions for reportedly setting her up to "fail," even after the star claimed her in-ear monitors weren't working before taking the stage. Following the whole fiasco, the singer decided to fire her longtime creative director, Anthony Burrell, who has worked with Carey for many years, and was also in charge of her tour choreography. A source close to Carey explained that he will not continue in the new year "for a number of reasons."

At this year's Billboard Music Awards, Britney Spears opened the show, throwing it back with all her old hits including "Toxic" and "I'm a Slave For You." The world of social media was less than impressed, though, claiming that it was all too obvious that Spears wasn't singing at all.

Justin Bieber's lip syncing fail was a messy affair. During a show in Arizona back in 2012, the singer vomitted mid-song, and it became immediately clear he'd been lip syncing the whole time.

At the 2013 Jingle Ball concert, Selena Gomez took the stage to sing "Come and Get It," but had serious sound issues starting off. The crowd saw Gomez mouthing other words to her crew in anger, as the song played on in the background.

Surprisingly enough, Beyoncé doesn't always pull out all the stops. She notoriously mouthed along to the words during President Obama's inauguration ceremony in 2013.

Mariah Carey has had her fair share of lip syncing blunders, but this 2015 Jazz and Blues Festival performance went down in history.

Shakira's hips might not lie, but her singing sure did at the Fifa Concert in South Africa.

It's impossible to talk about lip syncing fails without mentioning Ashlee Simpson. The young singer bombed an SNL performance when her band blatantly started playing the wrong song, and Simpson was left speechless.
