Julio Iglesias was honored this past weekend for his decades-long career.
The 68-year-old legend, who is the best-selling Spanish recording artist of all time both at home and abroad, spend the last day of his “public life” in Madrid, Spain on Friday. During a press conference held at the Cervantes Institute, the singer accepted the award by his compatriot, tennis player Rafael Nadal.
Iglesias will continue singing where invited, but he announced that his time of awards ceremonies and public events probably ended with Friday’s event. The singer has had overwhelming success throughout his music career – we’re talking about 26 million discs in Spain.
As for the rest of the world? A cool 300 million discs.
Last year, Iglesias traveled around the world for his "Starry Night World Tour" to promote his 42 years in the music industry.
Iglesias said he badly missed his mom and dad at what he called “the most important moment” in his 44-year career, though he hailed the presence of Nadal, "the greatest Spanish athlete in history.”
