VIDEO: David Archuleta on Jive Records: “It Just Felt like the Right Time to Part Ways”

Last week, David Archuleta was dropped by his label of almost three years, Jive Records, after his sophomore album, The Other Side of Down, sold a disappointing 67,000 copies (by comparison, Archie’s 2008 self-titled debut album moved almost a million copies and had been certified platinum).

A Jive Records spokesperson confirmed the news of Archie’s departure to the The Hollywood Reporter saying, “David was released from our roster.” Now, Archuleta has chosen to issue a statement of his own—via Youtube. “I know a lot of you {have heard} that I’m no longer with my record label,” Archuleta says in the video below. “A lot of people have been leaving {Jive} and there have been a lot of changes, and I’m changing as an artist." He says there were offers to continue working with Jive, but that it "just didn’t feel like the right thing now."

Adds David: “I just feel like I need to start going in a different direction now and it felt like the right time to part ways.”
