Tijuana Singer Ceci Bastida Tours with Lilith Fair

Lilith Fair—the tour that celebrates women in music—is back after an 11-year hiatus! Performances kick off on June 27 in Calgary, Alberta, and Ceci Bastida, one of our favorite up-and-coming Mexican singer-songwriters, is among the 80-plus acts on the bill. She’ll perform on August 10 and 11 in Florida and August 12 in Alabama.

The Tijuana-born vocalist got her start in 1990 as the frontwoman for the punk group Tijuana No., and in 2000 joined Julieta Venegas’s band before branching out on her own six years later. Now a solo artist, she recently released her first full-length album, Veo La Marea (EMI), in Mexico. The CD includes collabos with Brooklyn band XXXChange, Monterrey rapper Niña Dioz and heavyweight dj/producer Diplo, with whom she worked with on the song “Have You Heard?” inspired by the war against drug trafficking in Mexico.

If Bastida makes it to a city near you any time soon, go and see her. The indie songstress is known for doing super cool covers of Kanye West, The Clash and other artists at her shows. While we wait for that to happen, here she is putting a new spin on Bow Wow Wow’s “Do You Wanna Hold Me.”
