Sound Check: Prince Royce Recording in English, Mariah Carey Dropping a New Album

—Burgeoning bachata star Prince Royce recently signed with Atlantic Records to release English language records!  The Billboard Latin Music award winner was originally signed by indie Top Stop Music, a label founded by Sergio George, who produced Royce’s first eponymously titled album. Sales soared due to hit singles like “Corazon Sin Cara” and Royce’s bilingual version of “Stand By Me.” The singer is currently working on the album, which will be released under a joint Top Shop/Atlantic label date sometime in early 2012.

—Just weeks after giving birth to twins Morrocan and Monroe, Mariah Carey is looking to make a musical comeback.  The singer’s husband, Nick Cannon recently revealed that Carey was working on new material for an upcoming album throughout her pregnancy and is hoping to release the album some time this year. Cannon told the New York Daily News, “She’s been working away, and the pregnancy has totally inspired her on so many levels.” Way to redefine the term “working mother” Mariah!

—Billboard and Telemundo recently teamed up to produce the new Premios Billboard de la Musica Regional Mexicana (Billboard Regional Mexican Music Awards). Regional Mexican music is the top-selling genre of Latin music in the states to date. This will be the first time a U.S. network produces an award show exclusively dedicated to this genre. The new Billboard Regional Mexican Music Awards are set to premiere this fall.
