Shakira Is the 2011 Latin Grammy Person of the Year

Shakira is having a very good year. Not only does she have a hot new boyfriend, Real Madrid’s Gerard Pique, but she was chosen as one of LATINA’S 15 Latinas We Love and now she has been named the 2011 Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year —the youngest artist ever to receive the award.

Shakira is nominated for 3 Latin Grammys this year, including Album of the Year, and she has previously won seven Latin Grammys and two Grammy awards.

Shakira joins a list of artists named person of the year—picked for their philanthropic work—that includes Plácido Domingo, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Gil, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin. "It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music," Shakira said in a statement.

The Colombiana will be celebrated with a tribute dinner and star-studded concert on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Shaki will be serenaded by friends and other artists with her own songs and a portion of the proceeds of the event, which takes place before the Latin Grammy Telecast on Univision, will benefit Shakira's Pies Descalzos Foundation as well as The Latin Recording Academy's Latin GRAMMY in the Schools educational efforts.
