Our favorite Latino country boy seems to be doing well for himself.
Zap2it is reporting that part-Boricua Scotty McCreery snagged the award for Artist of the Year: New Artist at the American Country Music Awards last night, which took place in Las Vegas. We couldn’t be more proud of the 18-year-old, who stole America’s heart when he won last year’s season of American Idol. He made history on the FOX’s hit reality singing competition by becoming the first Latino to win American Idol, beating out fellow contestant Lauren Alaina.
It was a stellar night for McCreery because not only was he dubbed the New Artist of the Year, but according to MTV, his debut album Clear as Day also went gold. Like we have said before, the Southern crooner is definitely a history-maker. Earlier this fall, we also reported that McCreery’s Clear As Day album debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Album charts.
McCreery is set to tour with singer/songwriter Brad Paisley next year and is clearly excited about teaming up with the 38-year-old known for lacing his song lyrics with humor. “So have ya'll heard the HUGE news!” McCreery tweeted back in September. “I'm heading out on the road with @BradPaisley in 2012! It’s really humbling that somebody like him would invite me to tour w/ him.” So humble – we love our Scotty.
Congrats to him on last night’s win and we wish McCreery continued success!
