Whitney Houston, one of the greatest voices of our time who ruled the pop and R&B genres throughout the 80's and 90's, was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon in Beverly Hills, California. She was 48-years-old. Houston had the power to transcend beyond musical genres and break many barriers throughout her career. Whether it was an up-tempo dance track or a romantic ballad, Houston always performed with effortless grace and showcased a voice that made us feel like she was singing just to us.
In honor of her life and talent, we are counting down our 5 favorite Whitney Houston songs. Rest in peace to the woman that taught us to praise ourselves and believe, "I'm Every Woman."
Chakan Khan’s 1970’s hit quickly became the pop anthem for female empowerment and self-confidence. At the age of 15, Houston sang backup for Khan’s single and in the 1990’s she revived the hit song for the multi-million dollar soundtrack The Bodyguard. Houston may have been the reigning queen of pop, but her lyrics also made us feel like royalty ourselves!
