Pitbull announced yesterday via his Twitter and his website, www.PlanetPit.com, that he was canceling  the May 31 date of his "Mr. Worldwide's Carnaval" tour in Phoenix, AZ to protest the recent passing of the state's polarizing SB1070 legislation.

"I am canceling my concert in Phoenix on May 31. How is the country we enjoy and love bcuz of its human rights, freedom, opportunity and that has been built by immigrants, now start 2 deny them?" he asked. "It is contradicting 2 everything the USA stands 4."

The Miami based rapper is the latest in a long line of Latino celebs who have stood up against the new immigration laws. Shakira went on a media tour blasting the new legislation, while Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan and a slew of other celebs have participated in marches and boycotts of the state. Even the city of Los Angeles has joined in; the city council recently approved a measure that forbids any official travel to the state and pursues the cancellation of all $58 million in city contracts to Arizona companies. More than 23 events have been canceled since the new laws were passed.

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
