Nelly Furtado is officially the queen of Latin collabos. The pop princess—who just two months ago told a Chilean newspaper that she felt like a Latina—has jumped on a remix of Wisin y Yandel’s hit reggaeton jam, “Sexy Movimiento.” Click here to listen.
Our verdict: We love hearing Nelly coo “sexy movimiento” in the chorus, and her accent en español is dead on. That said, Nelly Furtado’s laidback vibe doesn’t really match up to the intensity of Wisin & Yandel’s hardcore, synthed out sound. “Sexy Movimiento” is a burning club track, and her verse at the very end drags the whole song out to a mellow place we never needed it to go. Her style is much better suited to a reggaeton duo like Calle 13, who did a smoking remix for “No Hay Igual,” a track on her hit album, Loose. In that instance, she was giving her own song the remix treatment. Maybe Nelly’s better off recruiting Latin artists for her own records instead of doing a guest-spot on someone else’s hit? Tell us what you think!

'Is Nelly Furtado not considered Latina? Of course her spanish accent is dead on, if she speaks portuguese the two languages are very similar.' latimida, June 11, 2008 - 12:53pm
