Shakira’s upcoming album, Sale el Sol, drops on November 2 (Sony). If you just can’t wait to hear it, our favorite she-wolf is streaming all 15 tracks on her MySpace page. The record includes an upbeat version of London duo The XX’s “Islands.” And it’s not the first time the Colombian singer infuses new life into another artist’s song. Throughout the years she’s performed hits by everyone from Aerosmith to Van Morrison. Here are some of the most memorable tracks:
In June, she added some intensity (sexual and otherwise) to The XX’s “Islands” at the Glastonbury music festival in June.
Shaki sang a heartfelt interpretation of the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You” for the Hope for Haiti Now Telethon in January.
Back in 2007, she rocked out to “Dude Looks Like a Lady” during a VH1 tribute to Aerosmith. Best part: Watching her summon Steven Tyler to the mic.
Of course, Shakira isn’t the only one covering other people’s music. British band Hot Chip discofied “She Wolf” in April. Thankfully, none of the members had to writhe around in a cage to complete this remake.
