Listen: Juanes Unveils New Single Today at World Cup!
06/10/2010 - 10:56 ||
We doubt there is anyone more excited about La Copa del Mundo than us. Except maybe Juanes, who is set to unveil his first new single in three years today, the hotly anticipated “Yerbatero” (or “herbal healer”), at the World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The festivities will be broadcast live starting at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN2 and Univision (and online at vevo.com), with our favorite Colombian rocker hitting the stage at 3:20 p.m. EST for a ten-minute performance. In addition to treating an estimated 30,000 futbol fans to his own brand of feel-good medicine, Juanes will share the stage with Taboo, the proudly Mexican member of the Black Eyed Peas, and perform a version of Juanes’s break-up anthem “La Paga.” Other performers include Juanes’s compatriota Shakira—singing the official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song “Waka Waka” (This Time for Africa”)—Alicia Keys, Angélique Kidjo, John Legend, and more.
“I’m so grateful to the FIFA,” Juanes excitedly tells Latina.com, “and so happy they have invited me back. I was in Berlin four years ago [at the last World Cup] and now South Africa, where I’ll happily unveil “Yerbatero,” the song off my new album, as part of the inaugural World Cup concert.”
The first taste of Juanes’ upcoming fifth studio album—which he has been busily recording in London with co-producer Stephen Lipson (Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones) and is due at the end of the year— “Yerbatero” mixes folkloric sounds (think guasca) with rock. Best of all, it opens with handclaps, which are known to make us instantly happy. The single will be available on iTunes and serviced to radio outlets around the world starting today.
Listen to “Yerbatero” and tell us what you think: does it get you pumped for the World Cup?
