One thing the music industry has learned over the years is that Latina pop stars are in high demand. Let's face it, we bring a flavor to the mix that is truly original. Here are some of our favorite new and old collaborations featuring Latinas and hip-hop artists that we love. Do you have a favorite?
1. Hip-Hop: Cassie
Cassie Ventura and Nicki Minaj
The 26-year-old singer is heating things up with the American Idol judge for the rapper's track, "The Boys" off of her upcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up. The video directed by Colin Tilley is very neon and eye candy friendly. We are sure the fellas are drooling over this one!
2. Hip-Hop: Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule:
Before we knew her as "Jenny From the Block," Jennifer Lopez was confessing her realness to the world with help from Ja Rule in the hit track "I'm Real." The single off of her "J.Lo" album hit number one on Billboard's Hot 100 charts back in 2001. The song wasn't well received by everyone. Some fans were furious about J.Lo's use of the N word, which is bleeped out in the radio version.
3. Hip-Hop: Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey and P. Diddy
Mimi was celebrating her singlehood from Tommy Mottola when her hit "Honey" featuring P. Diddy dropped in 1997. The single off of her sixth studio album, Butterfly, received two Grammy nominations for "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" and "Best R&B Song." We love the concept of the video, which featured Mariah as a spy on the run in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
4. Hip-Hop: Christina Milian
Christina Milian and Kanye West:
Christina Milian used some help from Kanye West to get her bling back for the single "Diamonds," which was later retitled "Elope." The song may not have blown up into a radio hit, but we still enjoyed the hip-hop crooner and Cuban singer's dynamic for the track off of her album "Dream in Color." We can't wait for her new album to drop!
5. Hip-Hop: Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera and Red Man:
At the height of Christina Aguilera's X-Tina stage, the half-Ecuadorian singer was serving up an ultra raunchy performance in her single featuring Red Man, "Dirrty." The Grammy Award-winner's single hit Billboard's Hot 100 chart and helped put her album "Stripped" on the map.
6. Hip-Hop: Shakira and Pitbull
Shakira and Pitbull
We all know these Latin powerhouses have countless of collaborations under their belts, but this particular track is one of our party favorites. "Rabiosa" off of Shak's latest album, Sale el Sol, perfectly mixes dance hall, reggae, and Latin pop beats in one addictive single.
7. Hip-Hop: Gloria Estefan
Gloria Estefan and Pharrell:
Gloria Estefan and Pharrell proved to be the perfect musical marriage for her latest album "Miss Little Havana." The album produced by the Neptunes star produced two hits, including her second single titled, “Hotel Nacional.” The track debuted at number one and made her the first woman to top Billboard’s Latin Songs chart! Can you say "Wepa"?!
