The 9th Annual Latin Grammys just came to a close, and the night's bigwinner is definitely Juanes. The singer swept all themajor categories, taking home awards for Best Male Pop Vocal, Album ofthe Year, Song of the Year, Best Short Form Music Video and Record ofthe Year. Juanes now has a total of 17 Grammys. Might be time to clearsome shelf space!
The nights other stand-out star was La Reina, Gloria Estefan. On top ofbeing honored as this year's Person of the Year—the first femaleever—Gloria and her husband/partner took home awards for BestTraditional Tropical Album and Best Tropical Song. She also brought theentire audience to their feet during herperformance of her hit songs "Mi Tierra" and "Oye Mi Canto."
Kany Garcia, who famously got a visit from Gloria when she was in the
hospital after suffering a car accident, stole the Best New Artist
award right out from under category favorite Ximena Sarinana and also
won Best Female Pop Vocal for her track "Cualquier Dia."
Other big winners tonight include Julieta Venegas, who took home two
statues for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Longform Music Video,
and Cafe Tacuba, who won Best Rock Song for "Esta Vez" and Best
Alternative Song for "Volver a Comenzar."
