Why Fifth Harmony Is The Female One Direction

The ladies of Fifth Harmony are on their way to the top! The uber-talented girl group, comprised of Camila Cabello, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Dinah Hansen, and Normani Kordei, have drawn comparisons to another fivesome you may have heard of: One Direction.

You can't deny the similarities! Here are five reasons that Fifth Harmony are the female version of One Direction:

1. 5H: Name

Reason #1: The name.

Let's start with the obvious: the names!

Originally, the ladies of Fifth Harmony called themselves "The Lylas." Unfortunately, that name had already been taken — by Bruno Mars' sisters! Camila, Lauren, Dinah, Normani and Ally decided to follow in the footsteps of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomilson with an incredibly similar, number-focused name. Nowadays, the groups both have eerily similar abbreviations: 5H and 1D.

2. 5H: X Factor

Reason #2: They both got their start on X Factor.

Let's be real: 5H and 1D basically became famous in the exact same way.

5H got their start on the American version of The X Factor in 2012, while 1D formed in 2010 on the British version of the show. All ten members also auditioned as individual artists. Unfortunately (fortunately?) they were all eliminated as individuals. Luckily, Simon Cowell worked his music magic, and saved them all by forming two groups.

Neither Fifth Harmony nor One Direction won the competition (in another frightening coincidence, they both placed in third) but they both went on to use The X Factor as a platform for their phenomenal future success.

3. 5H: SYCO Records

Reason #3: They're both signed to Simon Cowell's label Syco Records.

Following their eliminations from The X Factor, both 5H and 1D signed to Simon Cowell's Syco Records. Both Fifth Harmony and One Direction have albums slated for release in fall 2014  — and we'll definitely be buying both!

4. 5H: Fans

Reason #4: They both have crazy dedicated fan bases

If the #Harmonizers and #Directioners ever got into a feud, we're pretty positive it would only end in the mass destruction of the world (possibly universe) as we know it. These fans are completely, totally, unequivocally dedicated to the chicas of Fifth Harmony and the hombres of One Direction.

5. 5H: More Than Bands

Reason #5: They're more than just bands.

Fifth Harmony has yet to release an album, and yet they already boast a clothing line with Wet Seal and a line of replica Barbie dolls. Similarly, One Direction helms their own $50 million business empire, which includes a clothing line, perfumes, documentaries, action figures and more.

Let's be real: One Direction and Fifth Harmony's appeal extends beyond their music. As much as love jamming out to "BO$$" or "Fireproof," we enjoy stalking their social media accounts even more. Even if we aren't personally acquainted with Camila or Harry or Lauren or Liam, we consider them our friends. They're more than just bands — and that's why we love them.
