We were excited to learn this morning that a Latina will be hosting this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards—for the second year in a row! Our very own cover girl Selena Gomez will MC the 18th annual awards ceremony, being held in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 6 and premiering that same day on Tr3s that day at 6 p.m. EST.
This is a major gig for the 19-year-old singer/actress but we are confident she can handle it. Last month, the part-Mexican superstar co-hosted the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show in Los Angeles. Gomez interviewed her fellow stars on the black carpet, including her honey Justin Bieber. In addition to hosting the EMAs, Gomez is also included in the list of nominees for the Biggest Fans award.
Last year, Mexican American actress Eva Longoria hosted the ceremony, so we’re excited to see her pass the mic to another Latina. Some of our favorite Latino artists are nominated for EMAs this year, including Bruno Mars, who leads the pack with four nods. Puerto Rican superstar Jennifer Lopez is nominated for Best Female and Best Song, for her wildly popular “On the Floor” featuring Pitbull and Mr. 305 received a solo nod as well for the Best Hip-Hop category.
We can’t wait to see Selenita take the stage! Will you be watching?
