The Billboard Latin Music Award nominees have just been announced, and we're happy to say that while the list of artists up for awards is still mostly male—with Flex, Enrique Iglesias and Aventura at the top—it's also sprinkled with a couple of talented females, like mexicanas Julieta Venegas and Jenni Rivera.
Leading the pack by a mile is romantic reggaetonero Flex, who earns 13 nominations for his debut album, Te Quiero, and the hit single that is its title track. Since Flex was also the best-selling artist of last year, you can be sure he'll emerge from the award show (which goes down April 23 in Miami) as a big winner.
Iglesias follows closely behind Flex with 10 nominations, while Rivera racks up seven, Aventura scores six, and Venegas earns six.
In addition to the usual Billboard Latin Music Awards doled out every year, Billboard has introduced 13 new categories, including Latin Digital Download Artist of the year, to account for young, web-savvy music fans and how they've quickly transformed not just which artists are popular (ahem, Flex!), but how the record industry makes—or at least, tries to make—its money.
