EXCLUSIVE: Dev Talks 'Bittersweet July' & Working With Enrique Iglesias!

Dev New Album Bittersweet July Interview

Has your daughter inspired your music at all?

I think so! It's funny, but when I first started recording, I really was so influenced by her and wanting to make her proud. Making music that she would love listening to as she got older. Songs like "Feel It" represent that, and what's so cool about her is that I see my sassiness in her. So, it makes me happy that I can actually make music like that. It was fun for me to go back and make records that were fun. She definitely influences me a lot.

Has she shown any interest in music at all?

Oh yeah! She loves Katy Perry. She's obsessed with her, and wants to play the drums. That's what she always tells me. I'm like, "You want to sing!" She's like, "I want to play the drums!" So, it's pretty cool, because she is really young, but she still loves music.

The Internet is a funny thing — so accessible and easy for things to be heard, but also filled up with everyone being able to put their codes and their emails. If I could give any up-and-coming artist any advice it would be to really just concentrate on the music aspect. It's cliché, but it's the most important thing at the end of the day. Networking and finding good people to surround yourself with — I think that's important.
