Half Mexican 19-year-old singer/actress Demi Lovato recently announced her upcoming tour dates and the tracklist of her new comeback album, Unbroken, which hits stores Sept. 20. Just take one look at the album’s featured artists (Missy Elliot, Timbaland, and Jason Derulo to name a few) and you will be just as excited about the young starlet’s first new album after an unfortunate stint in rehab for emotional and physical issues earlier this year as we are.
Song titles like “Who’s That Boy” and “For the Love of a Daughter” give us a glimpse into the themes that the former Disney star has been struggling with. There seems to be both light and dark notes on her album, echoing her own personal experience. Her first single—the emotional power ballad “Skyscraper”—shot to the number one spot on iTunes after it was released last month. Lovato spoke about her recent success with Ryan Seacrest on his 102.7 KIIS FM radio show on Monday.
“After 'Skyscraper' was released, I feel like it definitely opened up my audience a little because I was no longer just hearing from a younger demographic,” Lovato told the host. “I was hearing ‘Wow, that song inspired me and I’m a 45-year-old man that dealt with this issue.’” Lovato said it inspired her to continue to make music. “It took off and it had its own journey.”
Lovato also announced two special tour dates this fall. The first will take place on September 17th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, and the second on September 23rd at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Why is Demi hitting the stage so soon? To thank her fans, said Lovato.
“These shows are thanking my fans for being so supportive throughout this entire journey. This is the first time that I’ll be onstage in about a year, which is kind of unfathomable for me because I’ve been performing nonstop since I was 15,” she said. “Now, I’m getting back on stage and this is the first time I’ll be performing a concert after everything that’s happened.” The singer said she will be playing all her new songs from Unbroken and isn't sure if she is going to get super nervous. After seeing her tour de force performance at the Do Something awards, we're sure she be just fine.
We’re can't wait to see her return to the stage!
