Demi Lovato joins a star-filled roster of singers who will perform a special tribute to pop star Britney Spears at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards! Perez Hilton reports that the half Mexican actress/singer will perform alongside music heavyweights Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson, and Nicki Minaj, to name a few. That’s quite a gig for the 19-year-old starlet, which is no surprise to us after the tremendous success she experienced with her comeback single “Skyscraper,” released earlier this summer. No further details have been released about the special tribute, which will take place as part of the awards show airing live this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
The former Disney star performed her hit single this week on America’s Got Talent. Both intimate and powerful, Lovato’s performance began with her singing atop a large pile of colorful junk and later descended onto the stage – and even played the piano! “Skyscraper” is the first single off Lovato’s new album, Unbroken, which hits stores Sept. 20.
Lovato isn’t the only Latin recording artist performing at the VMAs this year. It was recently announced that Pitbull will perform his smash hit “Give Me Everything.” The 30-year-old Cuban American rapper is also nominated for two awards, and half Puerto Rican crooner Bruno Mars is up for four.
