According to the Hollywood Reporter, American Idol alum David Archuleta has been dropped by Jive Records, his label since 2008, after his latest album The Other Side of Down sold a disappointing 67,000 copies as of February 18th.
By comparison, Archuleta's 2008 self-titled debut album sold almost a million copies and had been certified platinum.
A Jive Records spokesperson confirmed the news to the The Hollywood Reporter that “David was released from our roster.”
Archuleta, who co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on his sophomore album, told us in October that he was thinking of recording a Spanish-language album for Jive Records. "That is something that I would love to do," said Archuleta. "I mentioned it to my label and they’re excited about it. Half of my family is Hispanic. I want to show them my gratitude."
