Common Scents: José José Launches Cologne

Celebrity fragrances are nothing new. In the last few weeks, Sarah Jessica Parker launched SJP NYC; Beyoncé debuted her first perfume Heat; and Kim Kardashian has been all over the place promoting her eponymous aroma. It’s usually the sweet smell of success that spurs stars to create their own scent for others to wear.

Hence I was surprised to hear that Mexican singer José José developed his own namesake cologne for men. The romantic balladeer, who catapulted to fame in the 80’s, isn’t exactly a household name these days—even despite recently releasing the mariachi album Ranchero.

But before we discount him, you should know that the profits from the scent benefit women and children living with AIDS, a very worthy cause indeed. So next time you’re shopping for a new parfum for your sweetie, you may want to bypass Antonio Banderas’ Spirit and David Bisbal’s Pura Esencia and go straight for José José.
