George Clooney has been tapped to direct The Yankee Comandante, a drama based on a New Yorker article on an American who assisted Fidel Castro and other Cuban rebels in overthrowing dictator Fulgencio Batista, reports the Hollywood Reporter.  Clooney and Grant Heslov will produce the film through their production company, Smokehouse. The movie will be a Focus Features film.
