Zoe Saldaña Dishes on 'Star Trek,' Her Mom, and Secret to Success (EXCLUSIVE)

Is Spock your favorite movie love interest of all time?

[Laughs] I would say that as Uhura, I’m very happy to have Spock as my love interest.

What did you love most about working on this movie?

I have learned so much from J.J. Abrams. I love working with filmmakers who take challenges and are capable and willing to imagine the unimaginable and convey that in their works. I learn so much from surrounding myself around people and artists who are like that.

How do you think that your childhood prepared you for these diverse roles that you have played?

I learned to work hard and not expect any handouts. I am an artist and I go after whatever I believe in. For some reason, I gravitate towards other people who are like that – open and creative. I feel very blessed to be where I am today.
