The mysterious trailer for Lost River, Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, landed yesterday, and everybody wants to know: "What is this movie even about?"
The macabre fairy tale stars Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks as a single-mom who gets swept into a dark underworld while trying to paying the mortgage. Meanwhile, her teenage son, played by Iain De Caestecker, falls for a girl and discovers a town submerged after the damming of a river. Gosling's longtime partner Eva Mendes also makes an appearance as a woman named Cat. Matt Smith, Ben Mendelsohn and Reda Kateb co-star.
Lost River, which originally went by the title How To Catch A Monster, almost didn't make it to theaters after it received overwhelmingly negative reviews at its Cannes Film Festival premiere.
Fortunately, moviegoers can now decide for themselves whether or not Ryan Gosling should give up his directing badge for good and stick to acting. Catch the flick in theaters on April 10.
