Was Eva Mendes in Rehab to Research Movie Role?

Eva Mendes shocked us all when she quietly checked herself into rehab earlier this year, to "proactive attend to some personal issues," according to her representative, but Star magazine is speculating that she may have been there to research her new movie role as a Spanish drug lord in Queen of the South.

In the movie, which also stars Josh Hartnett and Sir Ben Kingsley, Eva's character, Teresa Mendoza, flees Mexico for Spain when her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered. Acting coach John Kirby tells Star, "it's not unusual at all for an actor or actress to go to the extreme of checking into rehab to prepare for a character...because you want to fully immerse yourself in the role."

We're gonna call this BS for now. Even though Eva's rehab stint was sudden and unexpected, we hardly think she would be so insensitive to let the world think she was battling illness when she wasn't. Although, she has made a remarkable "recovery"...
