Reuters reports Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona, protégé of acclaimed director Guillermo Del Toro, is in talks to direct to direct Eclipse, the third movie in the popular Twilight franchise. Representatives from Summit, the studio making the film, wouldn’t comment on the rumor, but sources say Bayona—who is best known for directing the super creepy The Orphanage—is a serious contender, along with Paul Weitz, Drew Barrymore and James Mangold. Bayona, 33, is scheduled to direct the thriller Hater for Universal, but if things work out with Summit, Eclipse will mark his English-language directorial debut.
UPDATE: Bayona has been confirmed as the director for Eclipse. The film is expected to be released on June 30, 2010.
