Sofia Vergara Lands Role in Sexy New Thriller

It seems fitting that recently anointed CoverGirl spokeswoman, Sofía Vergara, would also land a role in in a sexual thriller at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Huffington Post reports that The Paperboy, which will also star Hollywood hunk Matthew McConaughey, is the brainchild of director Lee Daniels and is based on the 1995 book of the same name by author Pete Dexter.

The story centers around two reporters, Ward James and Yardley Acheman, who come to fictitious Moat County in Florida to investigate the four-year-old murder of the county sheriff. Both reporters are helped along by Ward's brother and narrator, Jack, who is a paperboy.

So who will Sofía Vergara play? The best guess is a character named Charlotte Bless, a postal worker from New Orleans who comes to Florida to thwart the execution of Van Wetter, the man convicted in the sheriff's slaying. Charlotte has researched the case thoroughly and believes in Wetter's innocence. Not to mention she's fallen in love with him. And half the town has fallen in love with her in the process, including paperboy Jack.

Vergara is no stranger to sexy, smoldering roles; she started her career in a bikini for a Pepsi commercial 21 years ago, and recently reprised her "role" for Diet Pepsi. The Colombian bombshell is also set to play a temptress in the Farrelly Brothers' version of The Three Stooges, which is slated for a 2012 release.
