A plan is in full swing to make a movie about late Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, with director Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) at the helm. Escobar, who was murdered in 1993, once controlled 80 percent of the cocaine shipped to the United States and was named one of the ten richest people on earth by Fortune and Forbes magazines.
This isn’t the first time a movie project around the late drug trafficker has been attempted. Two films—Escobar and Killing Pablo—were developed in recent years but have since been put on hold.
“This is the Latino Godfather,” said producer Scott Steindorff. “We’re showing the story of his family, the structure of his enterprise, his rise—the man had the largest criminal organization in the world. In the end, it was a war between Colombia and one man.”
