Move Over, Oscar, Nicolas Felizola's Got Next!

Ready for your red-carpet spotlight? Then key this name into your BlackBerry: Nicolas Felizola. Here to debut his spring/summer 2008 collection, Del Cuore, The Venezuelan-born, Miami-based designer won the hearts and soul of editors and socialites alike during Haute Lunch, a charity luncheon benefiting the AROD Family Foundation, hosted by "It" baseball player of the year, Alex Rodriquez and his wife, Cynthia.

Launched last year, and spearheaded by Cynthia, the AROD Family Foundation raises money to assist children and families in distress by supporting programs focused on improving quality of life, education and mental health. To date, they have raised more than $2 million in funds. And Cynthia, looking absolutely gorgeous in a black silk cocktail dress by Nicolas, couldn't think of a better way to kick off Fashion Week than reminding the fashion elite about the foundation's mission while introducing them to one of her favorite designers.

"I met Nicolas when I walked into his shop in Miami a few years ago," explains Cynthia. "He didn't know who I was and I didn't know who he was, but he was so warm and inviting and such a pleasure to work with. Top it off, his clothes are simply beautiful."

For his Del Cuore collection, Felizola, who was the winner of Mexico's Universal Excellence Award, Italy's Zanetti Murano Award, and the Best Design Award in Miami's Fashion Week, paraded thirteen models wearing silk gowns, cocktail dresses in cream, chartuese, red and grey, plus slacks and casual ready-to-wear in white and coral silks. "Del Cuore is about the passion of the heart and this collection is purely from the heart and completely about the passion that a woman has," says the designer, known for his clean and chic silhouettes topped off with dramatic pleating.
