The annual Spirit Awards honoring independent flicks revealed this year's nominees today in Los Angeles. Zoe Saldana, Anna Kendrick, and Common took the stage to announce the nominations.

While Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook were in the lead, End of Watch actor Michael Peña nabbed the nomination for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role as officer Mike Zavala in the drama flick, also starring America Ferrera, Natalie Martinez, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

"I liked the fact that it feels like the Latin community was celebrated in my movie. It doesn't happen that many times," said Michael in an exclusive interview with Latina.

In addition, the coming of age story directed by Aurora Guerrero, Mosquita y Mari, also landed a nomination for the John Cassavetes Award honoring features under $500,000. The coming of age story about two chicana teen girls starred newcomers Fenessa Pineda and Venecia Troncoso.

Congrats to all of the nominees!
