Are you ready for the big-screen adaptation of the Tony Award winning musical In the Heights to hit theaters near you soon? Yeah, so are we! Heights star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is in Los Angeles touring with the show (Corbin Bleu is holding down the role of Usnavi in NYC) and dished to Ryan Seacrest about the highly anticipated film—to be directed by Kenny Ortega—and cleared up some rumors in the process.
When asked if the one and only Jenny from the Block would be involved in the movie, Miranda denied the hype: "Jennifer Lopez is in no way affiliated with the movie," Miranda said in a web-only interview after the on-air chat. "I’ve read everything from she’s a producer, she’s playing Daniella, she’s playing Vanessa," he said. "Here’s the reality: Jennifer Lopez goes to a restaurant and there’s a rumor she’s buying the restaurant." Rumors about J.Lo's involvement were sparked after she was seen attending the Broadway show a number of times.
But Miranda hasn't ruled out the possibility of La Lopez's involvement in the future. "Hey, she might be in the movie!" he clarifies for Latina.com. "I never said she wasn't going to be in the movie, I just said she's not affiliated with the movie now." He's as open to working with the pop star as he is about about casting up-and-coming stars for the film—when listeners suggested Selena Gomez for the role of Nina, he agreed that she would be an excellent choice. But the casting suggestion that Miranda was most excited about was Betty White for the role of his abuela.
