Start Spreading the News...

Attention all movie buffs! Starting tomorrow, New York City becomes a film lover's paradise thanks to the start of the Tribeca Film Festival. Now in it's seventh year, the Tribeca Film Festival started off as a way to bring energy—and revenue—back to lower Manhattan after 9/11. This year's fest is bigger than ever, with high-profile red carpet events, panel discussions with filmmakers and industry experts, and, of course, lots and lots of movies—including dozens of features, shorts and documentaries from Latin America. If you're in New York or are looking for a reason to visit, check out the festival guide here. And keep checking during the festival for highlights, slideshows, film reviews and more from Tribeca.

Another Day, Another Award...

Salma Hayek may have to build herself another mantle to hold all of her awards and honors. The actress/producer is being feted by powerful non-profit Women in Film at their Lucy Awards this year, along with studio executive Sherry Lansing and actress Ginnifer Goodwin. According to WIF president Jane Fleming, "these honorees prove that women can excel across artistic and commercial boundaries. As writers and directors, actors and producers, executives and humanitarians, in television and in film." That sounds like our girl to a T. Congrats, Salmita!

One, Two Step...

Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta is developing a movie based on his own life, Daily Variety reports. The project is adapted from his autobiography, No Way Home, which tells the story of his upbringing in the Havana slums, and his rise to become the star of the Royal Ballet in London's Covent Garden. Carlos, 35, will play himself in the film, which begins shooting later this year in Cuba. His two nephews will play him as a child and teenager. Veteran producer Ruth Bosch (Buena Vista Social Club) will produce the film along with Acosta.
