J.Lo Dishes on Her New Role in 'Parker' - "It’s Great to Be Able to Play a Latina" (EXCLUSIVE)

Jennifer Lopez isn’t called the queen of multi-tasking for nothing. The Boricua mogul made her mark on American Idol, hit the road for her first-ever worldwide tour, and now she’s back for her post-Idol movie debut in the upcoming thriller, Parker.

In the film, which premieres nationwide this Friday, J.Lo plays Leslie Cienfuegos Rodgers, a cunning recently divorced real estate agent who partners up with Parker (played by action star Jason Statham) for a lucrative off-the-books project.

During a conference call, the Puerto Rican star dished about playing a Latina in the action flick directed by Taylor Hackford. “It is always a plus because they are suited for me. I fit into and understand the role well.”

In the film, her character lives with her loving, but lightly overbearing mother Ascension (played by Patti LuPone). She continues, “I know what it’s like to grow up with a Latin mother – not that she was exactly like [Ascension], but there were elements to her that I understood."

She continues, "It’s great to be able to play a Latina. She knows how to seize an opportunity and go for it. It’s a really great message to know that it can pay off in the end.”
