Deadline reports Gael García Bernal is officially playing Zorro in the much-anticipated remake of the movie entitled, Z

This news has come after years of speculation that the Mexican actor will pursue the role. Directed by Jonás Cuarón, the new film will be a futuristic version of the classic legend.

"I have always loved Gael for this role," said Mark Amin, one of the producers, told Deadline. "Zorro is a hero who is charming, witty and clever. Gael possesses all those characteristic and he’s able to deliver them with a modern spin to introduce the Zorro character to a new audience.”

This is Bernal's first major movie role. Back in 2013, he told Vulture that playing Zorro would be a fun challenge. "I’ve never done a big studio movie like [Zorro]," García Bernal said Bernal. "So I’m kind of curious to see what it is like. It looks kind of fun. Why not?"
