Eva Mendes and Matthew McConaughey are currently in negotiations to costar in a new indie drama directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz of Secuestro Express fame.

The film, titled Southbound, revolves around the story of a police officer (McConaughey) who accepts a bribe from a mysterious and gorgeous Mexican woman (Mendes) and unwittingly finds himself in the middle of an ongoing war between Mexican crime families and immigration police.

The film will give McConaughey a chance to return to a dramatic role since the critical and box-office flop Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Mendes recently finished filming the Werner Herzog–directed Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans and will also be appearing in Massy Tadjedin's movie Last Night. Production on Southbound is set to begin in September.

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
