This Documentary Challenges the Myth That Mexican Immigrants are "Barbarians"

A new documentary is questioning the media-perpetuated myth that Latino immigrants crossing over the Mexico-U.S. border are criminals, savages or, as the short film is titled, Barbarians.

The doc, directed by Rodrigo Reyes, repurposes the filmmaker's award-winning feature Purgatorio to share a new story about two deported migrants who embark on a journey north once more.

“They say we are at war. America is facing an invasion. Strangers are coming across the border every day, and they will soon overrun the entire country. Our only hope is to build a wall,” Reyes starts his narration of the powerful film that will challenge this narrative through stunning images of empty deserts and compelling storytelling.
