We've known that Diego Boneta was a phenominal singer since last Christmas, when the talented Mexicano serenaded us with a gorgeous rendition of Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad." So it brings us a great deal of joy to report that Boneta has just been cast as the lead in the highly anticipated movie-musical Rock of Ages opposite Tom Cruise!
In the film, which is based on the Broadway musical of the same name and is being directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Diego will play the role of Drew, a part originated on Broadway by American Idol alum, Constantine Maroulis. He joins an A-list cast that includes Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, Alec Baldwin as Dennis, Julianne Hough as Sherrie Christian, Mary J. Blige as Justice, and Paul Giamatti as the manager of the rock band. Academy Award nominee Amy Adams is also rumored to be joining the project.
This is the largest acting role to date for Boneta, who has previously had recurring roles on hit teen dramas like the CW's 90210 and ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars.
Rock of Ages, the movie musical about a small-town girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s rock-music scene, is set to his theaters nationwide on June 1st, 2012, and we're sure Diego is going to ROCK in this role!
