A-list Latino stars are being offered coveted movie roles left and right this week.
Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is in talks to join the cast of the Farrelly brothers’ big-screen comedy, Three Stooges. If she's offered the role (and according to the Hollywood Reporter, an offer is expected to be issued shortly), the talented comedienne will play a devious woman — and femme fatale — who pretends to be the wife of a dying man and tells the Stooges she’ll pay them a handsome sum of money if they murder the man in his sleep. Sounds like a killer role for Sofia!
And speaking of killer roles, Deadline.com is reporting that Javier Bardem is in talks to star in the book-to-film series, Dark Tower. If Bardem (an 2010 Oscar nominee for Biutuful) accepts the role, he’ll play Roland Deschain — the hero of Steven King’s beloved book series by the same name, in three movies. The film will be directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) and shooting is set to begin in the fall.
News also just broke that Javier’s wife, Penelope Cruz is reteaming with Woody Allen — the man who directed her to her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Maria Elena in the 2008 film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. We can’t tell you much about the movie, because Allen is keeping information about the project top secret. “I know [what I'm doing next], but the thing is that I have to ask the director what I can say and what I cannot say,” Cruz told Entertainment Weekly. “Because he’s very secretive. It’s…a movie with Woody Allen. But I really cannot say anything about the story or the characters.”
