— Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now) is in final negotiations to play Uncle Ben (Peter Parker’s uncle) in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man reboot, starring Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Spidey. The film is set to be released July 3, 2012.
— Movie star Cameron Diaz has been offered a role in Lionsgate Films’ The Happytime Murders. It's a movie aimed at adults that’s set in a world where humans and puppets co-exist (and the latter are treated like second-class citizens). We're still scratching our heads over this one, but if anyone can pull off a quirky character, it's Diaz.
— Nicole Richie has been tapped to star in her own sitcom for ABC. The single-camera comedy is about a professional mom (Richie) and is being penned by Jeff Rake, who wrote the shortlived 2009 comedy Miss March. Richie, who is best known as Paris Hilton’s co-star on the hit reality series, The Simple Life, has done quite a bit of TV work, including a memorable guest stint as a butt-kicking femme-fatale on NBC’s Chuck.
— The producers of the film, Clash of the Titans 2 (a sequel to the successful blockbuster Clash of the Titans) want Oscar winner, Javier Bardem to play the role of Ares, the God of War. Bardem is currently generating Oscar buzz for his work in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful.
