Someone's Hollywood stock just shot up big time. Camilla Belle, the Brazilian American actress best known for dating Joe Jonas and starring in the so-so action movie Push (out today), has just signed on to star alongside Peter O'Toole and Jonathan Rhys Myers in Mother, Mary of Christ, a film based on the New Testament.
Belle will play the title role of Mary, while O'Toole will play Symeon and Myers will tackle the double role of Gabriel and Lucifer and O'Toole. Legendary screen actors Al Pacino and Jessica Lange are also in talks to star as Herod and Anna the Prophetess, respectively.
Mother, Mary of Christ's production company, Aloe Entertainment, stresses that it won't be your typical holiday movie: "This is a part of Mary's life that has never been shown on the big
screen before. It takes us through Mary's youth, young love, her
life as a new mother and the triumph through the absolute terror of
Herod the Great's reign. It is truly a story of real female
Belle and her co-stars will begin shooting in Morocco this May, and the film will be helmed by Argentinean director Alejandro Agresti. Produdcers are hoping to attract the same audience as Mel Gibson's hugely controversial/succesful hit, The Passion of the Christ.
We can't wait to see Belle take on a role of this caliber in what will most definitely be a buzzed-about film.
